Professional Teeth Cleaning

Scaling, polishing and gum care from €60 — a thorough clean in a single 45–60 minute visit.

About this treatment

Professional cleaning removes the hardened plaque, or tartar, that builds up where brushing cannot reach. Left alone this is what causes bleeding gums, bad breath and, over time, the gum disease that loosens teeth. A scale and polish is the single most effective preventive appointment in dentistry.

It is also a good starting point for international patients. A clean lets us assess your gums and teeth properly, which means the treatment plan we build on top of it is based on the true state of your mouth rather than what is visible through a layer of tartar.

Is this treatment right for you?

Almost everyone benefits from a professional clean every six to twelve months, and more often if you smoke, have gum disease or wear braces or bridges. If your gums bleed when brushing, that is a sign to come sooner rather than later. Where there is more advanced gum disease we may recommend deeper cleaning below the gumline over more than one appointment.

How the treatment works

We first check your gums and record any pockets or bleeding. Ultrasonic instruments then break up and flush away tartar above and just below the gumline, followed by hand instruments for the detail. The teeth are polished to remove surface staining and leave a smooth surface that resists new plaque. Most appointments take forty-five to sixty minutes.

Aftercare and durability

Gums may feel slightly tender and bleed a little for a day or two, especially if there was inflammation — this settles quickly. Brush twice daily with a soft brush and clean between the teeth daily; that daily cleaning is what determines how long the result lasts. We will show you the specific spots you are missing rather than giving generic advice.

Cost compared with Western Europe

Our cleaning starts at €60, below typical Western European rates. Many international patients combine a clean with whitening or a check-up in a single visit — an efficient use of a short stay, and it gives us a clear picture before quoting any further treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Does professional cleaning damage enamel?

No. Ultrasonic scaling removes tartar, not enamel, and polishing paste is fine enough to smooth the surface without wearing it down. What damages teeth is leaving tartar in place, because it drives gum recession and decay.

Will cleaning make my teeth whiter?

It removes surface staining from coffee, tea and tobacco, so teeth often look noticeably brighter afterwards. It does not change the underlying natural shade — that is what whitening does, and the two work well together.
