Root Canal Treatment

Save the natural tooth — modern, comfortable root canal treatment from €150, usually in a single appointment.

About this treatment

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and disinfects the canals, and seals them. It is what allows a badly decayed or abscessed tooth to be kept rather than extracted — and keeping your own tooth is almost always better than replacing it.

The treatment has a reputation it no longer deserves. With modern rotary instruments and effective local anaesthetic it is comparable to having a deep filling placed. Most patients tell us afterwards that the toothache beforehand was far worse than the treatment itself.

Is this treatment right for you?

You may need root canal treatment if you have persistent toothache, pain on biting, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, a darkening tooth, or swelling around the gum. An X-ray confirms whether the nerve is affected. If a tooth is cracked below the gum or too little structure remains, extraction may unfortunately be the more honest recommendation — we will tell you if that is the case.

How the treatment works

The tooth is thoroughly numbed and isolated. We open the tooth, remove the infected tissue, then shape and disinfect the canals using rotary instruments and irrigation. Once clean and dry the canals are sealed and the tooth is closed. Most cases take sixty to ninety minutes. Because a root-treated tooth becomes more brittle, we usually recommend a crown or onlay afterwards to protect it from fracture.

Aftercare and durability

The tooth may feel tender for a few days, particularly when biting; ordinary painkillers are usually enough. Avoid chewing hard food on that side until the final restoration is in place. A properly treated and crowned tooth can last for decades — root canal treatment has a high long-term success rate when the tooth is protected afterwards.

Cost compared with Western Europe

Root canal treatment with us starts at €150, where the same treatment in the Netherlands or Germany typically costs several times more, particularly for molars with multiple canals. If a crown is needed afterwards, we can plan both into the same trip and quote them together.

Frequently asked questions

Is root canal treatment painful?

The treatment itself is done under local anaesthetic and should not hurt. The pain people associate with root canals is usually the infection beforehand — which the treatment relieves. Mild tenderness for a few days afterwards is normal.

Do I need a crown after a root canal?

Usually yes, especially on back teeth. Removing the nerve and inner tissue leaves the tooth more brittle, and a crown or onlay greatly reduces the risk of it fracturing later. We will include this in your plan and quote from the start.
